A really interesting look into the value of Facebook advertising and the estimated value of likes for your brand. It appears that the people who are paid to “like” brands are causing a real problem with engagement of actual fans. Draw you own conclusions here but it is a real eye opener if you are considering using Facebook advertising.

Some beautiful examples of cinedrones in action here.

Oculus

I think the Oculus Rift VR headset has really made big improvements in the VR space. One of the key things it has solved is motion blur which caused discomfort for users previously. They have a developers SDK and kit which I am tempted to run some tests with. I see some interesting applications for interactive storytelling and also training specific skills. Oculus website here and some info about its potential from Wired here

Daniel Goleman, the author of Emotional Intelligence, gives a talk at Google about his latest work in finding the hidden drivers of excellence. Interestingly he notes that his research into this changed his view on some of his original thinking on emotional intelligence. His latest book can be found here

The Mailbox iPhone app looks pretty interesting which I found via SwissMiss – I am interested to see the rearranging of emails and the delay till later/alarm concepts as this helps divide personal and work time up well.

A really cool collage of films from 2012 created by “Gen Rocks”. It reminds me of one I posted earlier however the audio in this one was fantastically compiled. I would be recruiting these guys to create advertising for LOVEFiLM, Amazon Instant Video, NETFLIX, Now TV….

Really nice installations from Philips OLED labs

Great talk from John Del Vecchio and Tom Jacobs of the Motley Fool detailing some insights into the financial markets. Some take aways are:

  • Cash/Equity/Bond positions and historically what has happened when they fluctuate
  • Capital distribution
  • Picking companies which go down 30% is far easier then picking the ones that go up 30% – much lower rate of success then to failure.

Paul Levy gives a great talk at Google based on examples from his book Goal Play. Anybody in a leadership role should watch this and I particularly like his example of normalisation of deviance.

A very interesting presentation from Leah Buechley from MIT on paper based electronics using conductive ink. I believe this could be used in future packaging for smart notifications when products are running low.
